The joint work of scientists from the University of Toho in Japan and the Georgia Institute in the United States revealed a major change in the world atmosphere. According to the study, the oxygen level in the atmosphere will decrease in approximately 1 billion years.
Scientists reported that the loss of oxygen would take place before the water evaporation of the sun’s rays and the destruction of the oceans. This means the last for humanity and many living species that survive with oxygen.
Kazumi Ozaki, one of the scientists who conducted the research, said, “For many years, the time of life in the Earth was calculated based on the shining of the Sun and the global geochemical cycles. However, this model shows that oxygen in the atmosphere may not remain constant,” he said.
According to the study, the world’s oxygen-rich life period will cover only 20-30 percent of the total life of the planet. With the loss of oxygen, plants and creatures that make photosynthesis will disappear, but microorganisms living in anaerobic, ie oxygen -free environments will be able to survive.
