In the next few days, the USA also wants to talk to Russia about a plan to end the war in Ukraine. But first there was a meeting with representatives of the attacked country.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sees a lot of work still to be done by negotiators in efforts to end Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. It was a “very productive and useful session” in which, in his opinion, “further progress” was made, he said after several hours of talks with representatives of Ukraine in the US state of Florida, as can be heard in videos distributed by journalists on social media. At the same time, Rubio also emphasized that “there is still a lot to do.”
The matter is complicated. There are many aspects that are in motion. In addition, another party must be included. Rubio reiterated that this would happen in the coming days, when President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, visits Moscow.
Ukrainian delegation leader Rustem Umyerov called the meeting “productive and successful.” “We talked about the future of Ukraine, about everything that is important for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” he said, according to Ukrainian media. “The USA is very supportive of us.” Neither he nor Rubio gave any details about the content of the conversation.
An American 28-point plan to end the war in Ukraine was recently announced – but this was criticized by many as a “Russian wish list”. Europeans and Ukrainians later renegotiated the plan with US representatives, but points remained controversial.
Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Since then, the country has defended itself with the help of Western supporters. Despite talks about peace, Russia continues to attack Ukraine with undiminished severity.
