The United States faces the EU with sanctions and new tariffs. Freedom of expression on the continent is allegedly threatened. Brussels must finally show hardness.
In short, it looked as if the relationship between Europe and the USA could be put on again with a lot of patience and beautiful words. The EU has just reached a painful but justifiable compromise in the trade dispute with Washington. Most recently, Europe’s most important politicians were sitting at Donald Trump in the White House and preventing the US and Russia from approaching Ukraine. But the US President is already making the next declaration of war.
According to a media report that refers to insiders in the White House, the Trump government wants to impose sanctions against EU officials who are responsible for enforcing the European Digital Citizens’ Act (Digital Service Act, or DSA for short). In its view, the DSA serves to censor US citizens and cupping US tech companies.
On Tuesday, President Trump then officially made the threats of punishment with a post on his own platform Truth Social. In it he announced tariffs and export restrictions for countries that regulate the digital space in any way. It is Trump’s typical extortion method. But this time the EU must not get involved in any compromises. Because Trump’s announcement is a frontal attack on democracy in Europe.
The law was contrary to the tech corporations from the start because it sets limits to its business model – earning money with the anger of people. And it is also clear from which direction in Trump’s government the new threats come.
The US President is not ideologically motivated, he is mostly concerned with his personal advantage, whether in politics or in business. Vance, Musk and Thiel, on the other hand, want to abolish democracy and replace it with a neofeutal oligarchen state in which the super -rich undisturbed are undisturbed by laws and authorities. Just recently Peter Thiel spoke about it in an interview with the “New York Times”. In the United States, the conversion into an authoritarian system is in full swing, and when it comes to Vance and its back men, Europe should follow this way.
