The technological power of the Turkish Armed Forces, a new page in national systems

While the Turkish defense industry is rising to an increasingly visible position in the global arena with the new generation weapon technologies it has developed, domestic and national systems produced in recent years have been closely followed by many countries. The wide spectrum ranging from unmanned aerial vehicles to air defense systems, from electronic warfare solutions to missile technologies, reveals that Türkiye has transformed into a country that not only meets its own security needs but also develops technology appropriate to the changing character of the battlefields. Among the most striking topics of this transformation are laser weapons and new generation missile systems.

Türkiye’s laser weapons do not constitute a single product family, but a multi-layered defense architecture shaped according to the new battlefield.

ELECTRONICS DISTORT THE STRUCTURE

The systems developed by Türkiye in the field of defense attract attention not only as a demonstration of technology, but also as a new layer of defense that can be used in the field. So much so that Laser-based systems developed by institutions such as ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and Meteksan Defense undertake multiple tasks against different threats.. While these systems focus on directly destroying the target, they also aim to blind enemy ammunition, mislead sensors and disrupt electronic structure.

GÖKBERK PROTECTS

GÖKBERK, developed by ASELSAN, stands out as one of the most remarkable systems in this field. Can be carried to the field with its mobile structure GÖKBERK was designed especially against FPV drones, mini and micro UAV threats. The system, which can detect and track the target with radar and electro-optical systems and neutralize it with a laser weapon, is preparing to play an important role in the lower layer of Türkiye’s ÇELİKKUBBE air defense architecture.

ELECTROMAGNETIC MIXING

ROKETSAN’s ALKA system is one of Türkiye’s most important examples of directed energy weapons. ALKA aims not only to hit the target with laser, but also to neutralize the threat before it gets close, with its electromagnetic jamming capability. Therefore, the system is seen as especially critical for swarm drone attacks, mini-UAV threats and asymmetric attacks. Considering that small drones can cause large military losses in modern wars, systems such as ALKA stand out as a low-cost but effective solution at the most sensitive points of defense lines.

DESTROYS SMALL TARGETS

IŞIK High Power Laser System developed by TÜBİTAK BİLGEM shows that Türkiye has moved the technological threshold further in this field. IŞIK, which draws attention with its laser power in the 20 kW class, is being developed to be used on land and sea platforms. This system offers a new defense opportunity not only against drones, but also against different small air targets and sensitive threats. The ARMOL system, which Türkiye previously developed, is considered one of the first important steps of this journey. It is emphasized that ARMOL, which can be integrated into armored vehicles, paves the way for domestic laser weapon experience that can be used in the field.

IT WILL PROTECT CRITICAL FACILITIES

ASELSAN’s LSS, known as the Laser Defense System, is among the systems that stand out especially in terms of critical facility security. The LSS laser system also provides the advantage of low firing cost, fast engagement and instant response for energy facilities, military bases, ports, radar centers, ammunition depots and strategic infrastructures.

International Relations Expert Prof. Dr. Hasan Köni says, “The Turkish defense industry is investing in future technologies such as laser weapons. It is transforming Türkiye from being just a regional defense producer into a technology actor followed on a global scale.”

THE RANGE OF MISSILES IS EXTENDED

On the other hand, one of Türkiye’s strongest areas, along with laser weapons, is missile systems. The missile and ammunition family developed by domestic defense industry institutions, especially ROKETSAN and TÜBİTAK SAGE, is among the most critical items supporting Türkiye’s air, land and sea power. HİSAR-A+ and HİSAR-O+ in low and medium altitude air defense, SİPER stands out in the need for long-range air defense. While ATMACA anti-ship missile increases the striking power of naval forces; The SOM cruise missile provides long-range precision strike capability.

DETERRENT POWER

While KARAOK, OMTAS and UMTAS anti-tank systems provide land elements with a strong capability against moving targets, BOZDOĞAN and GÖKDOĞAN air-to-air missiles are seen as critical for Türkiye’s national combat aircraft and air platforms. Rocket and ballistic missile systems such as TRG-230, TRG-300, Bora and Tayfun increase Türkiye’s deterrence against deep targets.
