In the study conducted in the USA, experts examined scenarios that would destroy 18 percent of the world’s plant species by 2100, through computer-generated modeling. Researchers determined that 7 percent to 16 percent of the world’s plant species may lose at least 90 percent of their habitat due to temperature increases and imbalances in rain and snowfall. Observing that the situation is getting worse, especially in the Arctic and Mediterranean regions and Australia, scientists have revealed that the mentioned species may disappear completely.
In another study conducted in England, experts measured the extinction risks of ‘flowering plants’ covering more than 335 thousand species. Scientists have determined that nearly 10 thousand flowering species are at risk of extinction.
