THE THRONE IS CHANGING IN THE MARKET
In the first nine months of 2026, 627 thousand 977 cars were sold in Türkiye. Although the total market shrank by 15.45 percent compared to the same period last year, the total share of electric and hybrid vehicles reached 51.9 percent. Sales in these two groups amounted to 326 thousand 35 units. In other words, one in every two new cars on the road in Türkiye now has an electric motor. A year ago, the total share of electric and hybrids was around 45 percent. The center of gravity in the automobile market has shifted markedly in just one year.

HYBRID REACHED ONE THIRD OF THE MARKET
Hybrid cars constitute the strongest pillar of the transformation. 204 thousand 956 hybrid cars were sold in the first nine months of the year. The share of hybrids in the total automobile market increased to 32.6 percent. Thus, hybrid cars alone account for approximately one in every three new cars sold in Türkiye. In particular, users who do not want to be dependent on charging infrastructure but want to reduce fuel consumption are turning to hybrid models, which plays a decisive role in the new balance of the market.

20 PERCENT LIMIT FOR ELECTRIC
Full electric car sales amounted to 120 thousand 329 units in the nine months of the year. When extended-range electric models were included, the number increased to 121 thousand 79. The market share of electric cars reached 19.3 percent. In September, the picture was even more striking. While 15 thousand 128 electric cars were sold in a single month, the market share increased to 23.7 percent. Thus, vehicles powered solely by electricity have reached the level of constituting approximately a quarter of the Turkish automobile market in some months.

GASOLINE IS WITHDRAWAL
While electric and hybrid are on the rise, gasoline cars, which have been the backbone of the market for years, are rapidly losing share. In the first nine months of 2026, 258 thousand 453 gasoline cars were sold. While gasoline sales decreased by 23.5 percent on an annual basis, its market share fell to 41.2 percent. Gasoline models, which in the past dominated the market by far, are now behind the total of electric and hybrid models. Thus, a change in balance in the Turkish automobile market, which could hardly have been considered a few years ago, has occurred.
