While many health insurance companies have recently increased their additional contributions, the BMW company health insurance company is reducing its contributions. This means that the cash register is making a U-turn.

  • Expenses increase faster than income: Health insurance companies – there is a risk of further premium increases
  • 600,000 insured people affected: Two health insurance companies are considering a merger

With the reduction in the additional contribution, the company health insurance fund is back to the level of the beginning of 2025. In July of last year, the additional contribution was increased by one percentage point – now the turnaround follows. The health insurance company justifies the reduction in the additional contribution with the good income situation. After the legally required reserve – 20 percent of an average monthly expenditure – was recently built up again, the additional contribution can now be reduced again.

Health insurance company gains new members

However, switching to BMW BKK is not possible for most insured people. The health insurance is only available to BMW Group employees and their relatives. Recently, the health insurance company was able to significantly increase the number of insured people. In 2024, the number of insured people rose by almost 11,200 to 227,944 – a new record.

At 2.9 percent, the BMW BKK’s additional contribution corresponds exactly to that of the Federal Government targeted average additional contribution. However, this is more of a guideline. The average additional contribution actually charged is currently 3.13 percent.

However, there are big differences between the individual health insurance companies. While the peak rate is up to 4.39 percent, the currently cheapest health insurance company – BKK Firmus – only charges an additional contribution of 2.18 percent. After the Bremen health insurance company, however is only open in certain federal statesis currently the cheapest health insurance company open nationwide TUI BKK with an additional contribution of 2.5 percent.
