The Social Security Institution took action to collect the municipalities’ debts totaling 96 billion lira. It was noted that 67.7 percent of the debt belongs to CHP municipalities.
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan evaluated the latest situation regarding municipalities’ debts to journalists following the Cabinet meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan yesterday:
“There were those who requested payment from the municipalities, and after the statement made by our President in the group meeting that day, we made the necessary explanations. Applications were made in line with options such as restructuring and making installments. We think that the number will increase day by day. An average number is not clear yet, but especially our municipalities are applying to our provincial directorates. More and more municipalities will apply to us, especially for the restructuring of their premium debts. During the payment process, we first notify the applicants, and then we work together on what we can do and how we can make installments.”
Minister Işıkhan also said about the workers dismissed from the municipalities, “Our Guidance Inspection Directorate evaluates all kinds of complaints we receive and we immediately assign inspectors to the incident.”
