Hamas: Will release six hostages on Saturday

The Islamist Hamas also announces the handover of four corpses on Thursday – including a mother and her two toddlers.

The Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas wants to release six more hostages on Saturday. This was announced by the senior Hamas official Chalil al-Haja. According to the agreement, Hamas would have had to release three more hostages on Saturday.

Al-Haja also said that the bodies of four hostages should be handed over on Thursday. Among the dead is also the Bibas family – a mother and two toddlers. The fate of Schiri, Ariel and Kfir Bibas – all also German citizens – had prevailed until the end. The father Jarden Bibas was recently released.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the agreement with Hamas. Finally, four other corpses of hostages should be handed over next week, the statement said. However, no information was given on the fate of the Bibas family.

Al-Haja also said that the other corpses should be handed over to the ceasefire in the sixth week. The step takes place as a continuation of the efforts to successful the first phase of the ceasefire agreement with Israel. He also spoke of preparations for discussions about a second phase of the ceasefire. In return, Israel has to release Palestinian prisoners as agreed.

According to the Hamas, two Israelis, which had been captured in the Gaza Strip for around a decade, are also among the six freely hostage.

Since the beginning of the ceasefire in the Gaza War on January 19, the Islamists have released 19 hostages in several rounds. In addition, five Thai people kidnapped from Israel were released regardless of the agreement. The multi -stage agreement between Israel and Hamas stipulates that during a first six -week phase, a total of 33 hostages are released in an exchange for 1,904 Palestinian prisoners. There are still 14 kidnapped, including eight deaths, in the violence of Hamas.
