Donald Trump meets the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska to negotiate the Ukraine secretary. So far, no representative Kiev has been invited.

According to a US representative, the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj could possibly take part in the summit of US President Donald Trump and Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin on Friday. “Yes, I think that is certainly possible,” said the US ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, on Sunday in the US news broadcaster CNN for a question. The decision about Selenskyj’s participation in the meeting in the US state of Alaska must ultimately be made by Trump.

“If he thinks it is the best scenario to invite Selenskyj, then he will do it,” said Whitaker about Trump. So far, however, “no decision” has been made. Whitker added: “There can certainly be no deal with which not everyone involved agrees.”

Trump and Putin meet in Alaska on Friday to advise on the Ukraine war. It is feared that the two presidents could make adverse agreements for Ukraine. Trump brought a possible “area exchange” between Russia and Ukraine into play. Selenskyj has ruled out to cede areas to Russia.

The EU and the EU countries demand that both they and Ukraine are involved in conversations about a possible peace solution. Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) said on Sunday at ARD: “In any case, we cannot accept that the heads of Europeans and the heads of the Ukrainians are talked about or even decided on territorial issues between Russia and America.” Merz also demanded that Selenskyj will be “involved” in the summit in Alaska.

The EU Foreign Minister will be discussed on Monday at an online special meeting on the topic. “Every agreement between the United States and Russia has to include Ukraine and the EU, because it is about the security of Ukraine and all of Europe,” said EU foreign commissioner Kaja Kallas on Sunday.

Putin himself recently said that he had “basically nothing” against a meeting with Selenskyj. The “prerequisites” for this have not yet been met.
