The Russians are putting pressure on Ukraine in the east. The new NATO Secretary General Rutte is calling for even more support from Western partners.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has called for more support for the attacked country in view of growing Russian pressure on Ukraine’s eastern front. “We must do more than just keep Ukraine in the fight. We must raise the costs for Putin and his authoritarian friends by giving Ukraine the support it needs to change the course of the conflict “said Rutte shortly before a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

Rutte also said that Western partners must recommit themselves to staying the course in the long term. It is important to continue support as Ukrainians prepare for what could be the harshest winter since 2022.

After the meeting with Macron, Rutte said Russia was continuing its attack on Ukraine while moving ever closer to its allies China, Iran and North Korea. “So we must stand together – Europe, North America and our global partners – to ensure the security and prosperity of our people,” Rutte said, adding: “The more we spend on defense, the more we reduce the risk of future conflicts .” The former Dutch Prime Minister took over as NATO Secretary General on October 1st
