In parallel with the talks about a possible end to the war, Russia continues to exert massive military pressure against Ukraine. New rocket and drone attacks resulted in deaths and injuries.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, at least three people have been killed and dozens more injured in the new Russian missile and drone attacks. Russia attacked with 36 missiles and almost 600 drones. The main targets were the energy infrastructure and civil objects. Zelensky also spoke of massive damage and fires in residential buildings in the capital Kiev and the surrounding area. According to authorities, a woman also died in the Kiev region.

According to the Energy Ministry, 500,000 people are affected by power outages in the metropolis of Kiev and 100,000 people in the Kiev region. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the number of deaths in Kyiv was two. There are also 37 injured. People had to seek safety in bunkers because of the nightly air raid alarm. There were also attacks in other parts of the country.

The Russian Defense Ministry said that in addition to energy infrastructure, defense factories were also targets of the attacks. These are responses to Ukrainian attacks against Russian targets. Accordingly, Russian anti-aircraft defense shot down 158 Ukrainian drones within 24 hours. As always, the ministry did not provide any information about damage. With these counterattacks, Ukraine is defending itself against the Russian war of aggression that has been going on for almost four years.

President Zelensky said Ukraine needs enough missiles for its air defense systems to better protect against Russian attacks. He once again called on the EU to release the Russian state billions frozen in Belgium as part of sanctions if Moscow does not stop its attacks. At the same time, Zelensky emphasized that talks with all partners were necessary to end the war. Ukraine is in discussions with the USA and leading Europeans about this.

US representatives are also expected in Moscow in the first half of next week to negotiate a plan by US President Donald Trump. The document initially had 28 points. After negotiations in Geneva, the first proposals from Ukraine and the EU have now been incorporated, which, according to the Kremlin, are also available to Russia. An agreement on a peace plan is not yet in sight.
