A Russian military court sentenced a man to a 15-year prison sentence for treason. It is said to have passed on secret information through the Black Sea fleet.

A military court in Russia sentenced a man from the Krasnodar region to 15 years in prison for high treason. The state news agency Ria Novosti reported that he is said to have passed information about the Russian Black Sea fleet to Ukrainian secret services.

The convicted Dmitri Lewin was accused of contacting the Ukrainian military secret service and the Russian volunteer corps – a group of Russian citizens who are fighting on the part of Ukraine and classified by Moscow as a terrorist organization. According to Ria Novosti, Lewin is said to have forwarded pictures and data on the movements of Russian ships in the port of Noworossijsk in the Krasnodar region.

The court in Rostow on the Don found him guilty of the treason and membership in a terrorist organization. Since the beginning of the Ukraine War in February 2022, the Russian authorities have significantly tightened the punishments for offenses such as high treason, espionage and sabotage.
