According to the BND analysis, the military resources will not only be used for the war against Ukraine, but also for the additional development and expansion of military capacities, particularly in the vicinity of NATO’s eastern flank. “These numbers materialize the growing threat to Europe from Russia,” the service analyzes.
BND President Martin Jäger warned at the public hearing of the heads of the secret services in mid-October without direct reference to the emerging military potential: “Russia is camouflage its intentions, in reality it aims to test our limits.” Europe must prepare for further deterioration of the situation. Moscow’s actions are designed to undermine NATO, destabilize European democracies, and divide and intimidate societies.
