The first Ro-Ro service was carried out within the scope of the works initiated for the use of the port in Karasu as a logistic route in trade. Karasu District Governor Mehmet Uğur Arslan, Karasu Mayor İshak Sarı and Karasu Coast Guard Commander Senior Sergeant Sedat Gülnar attended the ceremony held for the loading of the first truck to the port in Constanta, Romania.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor İshak Sarı said, “Thanks to the trips from our district to Romania, commercial companies will not have to wait long at the border gates and the problems encountered there will not be experienced. In addition, the decrease in transportation times and costs will create a great advantage in trade. In addition, this new route will be an alternative for vehicles that will go from Europe to Karasu Port using the Constanta Port and to third countries as transit via Turkey. Turkey and our district will gain with these trips that will make Karasu a strong potential in increasing exports to European countries due to their many advantages.”
After the trucks were loaded, the Ro-Ro ship set off towards Romania at night. Initially, the new route will be served by a ship called ‘MV URD’ with a capacity of 100 standard trucks. Initially, one ship will make 4 trips per week. In the last quarter of 2024, it is planned to make 7 trips per week with the commissioning of the second ship.
