A Republican representative is pushing for the Epstein files to be made public. She was summoned to the White House.
The pressure on US President Donald Trump to publish all Epstein documents has increased. So far, the Trump administration had only published parts of it, but now a law is supposed to force the government to release all documents. On Wednesday, Trump apparently summoned Republican Lauren Boebert, who advocates for the complete publication of the explosive documents, to the White House.
As the New York Times reports, officials from the Justice Department and the FBI tried to change her mind. Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the meeting – and called it a good example of how the administration works with members of Congress.
But Trump apparently had no success. Boebert is one of four Republican lawmakers supporting a bipartisan proposal to require Congress to vote on legislation to fully release the Epstein records. The application requires at least 218 signatures.
According to research by the New York Times, Trump had already called Boebert on Tuesday. But he didn’t push her. “The president didn’t force me to do anything. The president didn’t put any pressure on me. The president didn’t ask me to withdraw my name, all the conversations I had with him were friendly and very polite. And it’s okay for people to discuss things that are going on in our country,” she told CNN.
Trump is also said to have contacted Republican Nancy Mace of South Carolina, who also supports the proposal. She told CNN on Wednesday evening that Trump had not demanded that she withdraw her signature. The politician has very personal reasons: “When I was 14, I was sexually molested by a friend of one of my coaches, and at 16 I was sexually abused. A few months later, I was the victim of a violent attack. At 17, I dropped out of high school because I had nothing left to give. But God helped me change my life,” Mace said in a public statement on Wednesday. “Two years ago, to my great surprise, dismay and embarrassment, I was again the victim of sexual and domestic violence.”
MAGA activist and MP Marjorie Taylor Greene had previously advocated for the publication. She was long considered a vehement Trump supporter. In the Epstein affair, however, she insists on more transparency and demands that the President release all documents.
