Trump wants to make cannabis production easier. The Indiana Senate rejects a Trump plan. All developments in the news blog.

After the US military seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, US President Donald Trump again announced imminent ground operations without providing any specific information. “It will soon begin on land,” said the Republican in the White House. However, he did not mention Venezuela or other countries by name. Trump also left it open what kind of US missions it might involve. Immediately beforehand, he had spoken indirectly about the deadly US attacks on boats carrying alleged drug smugglers in the Caribbean that had been going on for weeks.

US President Donald Trump says he has spoken to China and Russia about denuclearization, i.e. nuclear disarmament. “I’ve talked to China about it. I’ve talked to Russia about it. And I think that’s something we’d like to do, and they’d like to do it too, and I think Russia would like to do it,” Trump said at a meeting at the White House.

When a reporter pointed out that Russia had said it was impossible to renegotiate the New Start disarmament treaty in time for its expiration in February 2026, Trump replied that he had been told otherwise. The nuclear disarmament treaty concluded between the USA and Russia in 2010 was extended for the last time by five years in 2021. It envisages a reduction in nuclear warheads and delivery systems.

Despite strong pressure from US President Donald Trump, the Republican-dominated Senate in the state of Indiana rejected redistricting in favor of the conservative party. With a vote of 31 to 19, the Senate voted against a corresponding bill from the House of Representatives, with which the Republicans could probably have secured more seats in the House of Representatives in Washington in future elections.

Trump reacted with disappointment: the redrawing of electoral districts had worked in other states, but not in Indiana, he complained at an appointment in the White House shortly after the vote.

President Donald Trump is expected to push the administration to dramatically ease federal restrictions on cannabis. The intoxicating plant and products made from it are to be put on the same level as some prescription painkillers and other medications, reports the Washington Post. The newspaper cites sources from the White House. Trump discussed the plan in a phone call with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) on Wednesday.
