Vladimir Putin insults Western politicians. He only explicitly excludes one.

Russian head of state Vladimir Putin made drastic comments about Western heads of state and government on Wednesday. According to media reports, during a meeting with military officers from his army, he called them “piglets.”

Putin left it open who he meant. However, he accused the Western heads of state and government of having acted meanly with former US President Joe Biden, who had started the war in Ukraine.

At the meeting with high-ranking military officials, Putin appeared unforgiving and demonstrated certainty of victory. This year alone, more than 300 towns in the neighboring country have been conquered, he claimed. “These also include large cities that were transformed by the enemy into fortress nodes with permanent defenses.”

Russian troops invaded Ukraine in February 2022, which has been resisting the invasion with Western support ever since. In this context, Putin praised not only his own army, which had proven to be superior despite Western support for Kiev, but also his own arms industry. As an example, he cited successful tests of the Burevestnik strategic cruise missile and the Poseidon underwater vehicle, as well as the Oreshnik mobile medium-range missile, which is scheduled to be delivered to the armed forces by the end of the year.

At the meeting, Putin also once again praised US President Donald Trump. According to him, negotiations with the new US government are making progress. However, he once again blamed the collective West as a whole for the war against Ukraine that he had ordered. “Basically, the West itself started the war. We’re just trying to end it.”
