Turkish Medical Oncology Association participated intensively in the ASCO 2026 Congress held in Chicago, USA between 29 May and 2 June. At the congress, where the most up-to-date scientific data in the world on cancer treatments were shared, promising results especially for advanced-stage pancreatic cancer patients attracted attention. The Turkish Medical Oncology Association shared with the public the details of the study, which was announced at this year’s congress of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and may open the door to a new era in the treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer.
In the RASolute 302 study, the results of which were announced at the congress, the effectiveness of the oral pan-RAS inhibitor molecule called “Daraxonrasib” was evaluated in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. Within the scope of the study, it was reported that the drug in question provided a significant advantage compared to classical chemotherapy in the second-line treatment of advanced-stage pancreatic cancer patients. According to the data obtained, the survival time in patients using Daraxonrasib was approximately doubled compared to patients receiving standard chemotherapy. Considering that pancreatic cancer is among the diseases with a severe course and limited treatment options in the advanced stages, it was stated that these results were considered as an important scientific development for both physicians and patients.
In the statement of the Turkish Medical Oncology Association, it was particularly noted that although the study revealed exciting results, the drug has not yet entered widespread use. It was stated that the molecule called Daraxonrasib does not currently have FDA approval and can only be brought to the agenda in the United States within the scope of early access programs. It was emphasized that the drug is not yet available for general use in the world, nor is it licensed in Türkiye, and therefore it has not become an accessible treatment option for patients. The association underlined that although scientific developments are promising, treatment decisions must be made by medical oncology experts, taking into account current guidelines and the clinical condition of the patient.
The Board of Directors of the Turkish Medical Oncology Association stated that their main mission is to deliver current developments in cancer treatment to patients on an accurate, balanced and scientific basis. In the statement, it was noted that oncological research in the world is closely followed and cancer treatments in Türkiye are carried out by medical oncology experts in the light of the most up-to-date scientific data. TTOD stated that the developments regarding Daraxonrasib and similar new molecules will be monitored carefully and called on the public to follow the association’s announcements for accurate and up-to-date information.
