The political climate in the United States is becoming more frosty – critics fear the worst. Three professors from the Yale University are now taking a radical step.

Several renowned scientists from the Ivy League University Yale have announced that they leave the United States and emigrate to Canada. In addition to the philosopher Jason Stanley, who has researched fascism and propaganda in recent years, Holocaust researcher Timothy Snyder and his wife Marci Shore, an Eastern European school, also want to leave the university. According to media reports, the three compete new jobs at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy from the University of Toronto.

Stanley explained to the philosophy portal “Daily Nous” that his decision “was only due to the political climate in the USA”. Even if he was always happy in Yale, he wanted to raise his “children in a country that does not tend towards a fascist dictatorship”.

Stanley had previously clashed with Trump-Vice JD Vance. This attacked Stanley as Defense Minister for critical statements about the nomination of Pete Hegseth. Vance called it a “embarrassment” that Stanley has a professorship in Yale. Tech billionaire and Trump consultant Elon Musk agrees on the platform.

The Snyder-Shore couple, on the other hand, explain their step with personal reasons. Shore told the “Insider Higher Ed” website that the University of Toronto started to advertise it. However, political developments also played a role. “I’m afraid that there will be a civil war. And I don’t want to pull my children in there,” she said.

Her former employer Yale also reproaches her: the university had failed to campaign for Stanley when members of the Trump government attack him personally.

In the course of its savings plans, the Trump government has also stimulated renowned US universities with drastic cuts. The Columbia University in particular was the focus of the government-the university lost $ 400 million. Trump justified the step with the pro-Palestine protests from the past spring and accused the university management that Jewish students did not protect enough.

As representatives of the Jewish lobbying organization J Street explained, Trump only used the fight against anti -Semitism as a guise – actually it was an attack on the universities. In several cases, the US government has withdrawn their visas if they participated in the protests last year.

The Columbia University finally bent and announced that the security guidelines and its department for near-OST studies are being revised. For Stanley it was a “complete collapse in front of an authoritarian system.”

The university’s decision gave him the final rash to go to Canada. Compared to the “Guardian” he showed the gallows humor: “My grandmother left Berlin with my father in 1939. So it is a family tradition.”
