In Cuba, the electricity has failed again, ten million people sit in the dark at night. Only a few hospitals and hotels are illuminated.

The dilapidated power grid has collapsed completely on the Caribbean island of Cuba. Hours after the failure had only a few vital facilities such as hospitals and hotels on Saturday morning (local time) that use their own generators, electricity.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel wrote on the X platform in various provinces of the Caribbean island. According to the government, around 200 megawatts are currently generated. At peak times, the normal electricity requirement on Cuba is at least 3,000 megawatts.

The nationwide power failure was triggered by a fault on a substation on Friday evening, the Ministry of Energy said on platform X. You work to restore electricity without a break, said Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz.

The latest failure occurred in the evening at 8:15 p.m. local time when the electricity demand is particularly high. The state provider UNE can only generate about half of the nationwide electricity. That is why parts of the population are always without electricity for hours even in normal times.
