‘Perseid’ shower event in Uludağ

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Industry and Technology; The Sky Observation Event, which was first organized by Bilim Teknik Magazine in Antalya Saklıkent in 1998, will be held in Bursa Uludağ on August 9-11 this year under the coordination of the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

The opening ceremony, which will be attended by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır and TÜBİTAK President Hasan Mandal, will start at 19:00 on Friday, August 9. Astronomy enthusiasts will have the opportunity to examine the sky with the help of experts.

The observation event, which aims to increase young people’s interest in space with the vision of the National Space Program, has been met with great interest from astronomy enthusiasts for years. Participants in the event were determined by drawing lots from among thousands of applicants from all over Turkey. 14,258 applications were made from all 81 provinces. The record was broken with the highest number of applications made to date. Among these applications, a thousand people, mostly families, were determined by drawing lots from 54 cities. The event, which included participants from all age groups, had its youngest participant as 1 year old and its oldest participant as 71 years old.

PERSEID TEMPERATORY OBSERVATION

According to the Celestial Events Yearbook, the most striking of the meteor showers, the Perseid meteor shower, which is formed when meteors enter the Earth’s atmosphere at extremely high speeds and burn as a result of friction, started on July 14 and will last until September 1. The observation event on August 9-11 will be one of the points where the meteor shower can be watched most clearly.
