The alleged perpetrator of Villach is said to have radicalized Islamically via Tikok – within a very short time. He apparently did not look for direct contact with the terrorist organization.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the alleged assassin of Villach has radicalized Islamistically before his fatal knife attack within three months on the Videoplattform TIKTOK. The 23-year-old Syrian had taken on a loyalty to the Islamic state before the crime, but was not looking for direct contact with the terror network, said the spokesman for the Klagenfurt public prosecutor, Markus Kitz.

The suspect had expected the police to publish the ISH oath after the attack, said the spokesman for the German Press Agency after the suspect had been interrogated. “He is relatively emotionless,” said Kitz. A 14-year-old died on Saturday in the indiscriminately attack on people in the center of Villach in the southern state of Carinthia. Five people were seriously injured.

The suspect came to Austria in 2019. He then traveled to Germany and had submitted an asylum application there. However, he was sent back to Austria, where the refugee status was granted to him. According to the police, he had not conflict with criminal law before the attack. However, he had received an administrative penalty for falsification of documents in Germany, as the Austrian news agency APA reported.
