Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Occupational Health and Safety Lecturer. Member Rüştü Uçan made assessments on the risk of safe charge of electric bicycle batteries and the explosion of batteries.
Lithium-ion batteries should work in the temperature range between 5-40 degrees, said Uçan, said:
“It should be remembered that the device that carries the lithium ion battery is very hot or the environment is too hot. It should be forgotten that the devices should be a cutting of the electricity when the charging is completed on the devices. The charging should be followed, the device should not be left on the charging alone.
“New technical batteries are safer”
In new battery devices to be purchased; Lithium Iron Phosphate (LifePO4) Batteries should be preferred Rustu Uçan describing the need to be preferred, said:
“These batteries represent a significant progress in energy storage technology and offer a series of advantages that distinguish them from traditional lithium battery types. These new technical batteries, which are used as cathode materials as cathode material, are longer lasting and safe than lithium ion batteries. This reduces the risk of fire and explosion.”
“Risk higher in low quality batteryalies”
Referring to the main reasons for battery explosions. Lecturer. Member Rüştü Uçan said:
“Thermal leakage occurs when heat production in the lithium ion battery cell exceeds the capacity to distribute heat. Since the battery can trigger exothermic reactions in the battery, thermal leakage usually occurs at high temperatures. The reactions produce more heat and the battery temperature increases.
“Do not pour water into the burning battery”
Noting how safe areas should be designed for the charge of electric vehicle batteries at home and at work, Uçan also warned the following:
“A burning lithium ion battery should never be used to extinguish a device. Water should be kept away from the automatic sping system. Water fire causes further expanding. Class D (metal) fires are very difficult to control. Special measures should be taken in order to spread the fires of alkali metals such as lithium.
Charging stations should be outdoors
Rüştü Uçan said that there should be no flammable substances around the places where he is charged at home and said, “The lethal gases to be released during the battery fire should be taken care of. Electrical vehicle charging stations should be paid outdoors.
