Oldest Hamas-Geisel declared dead

As a child, he had survived a pogrom against Jews in Iraq. Now information is known that Schlomo Manzur was murdered by Hamas when he was kidnapped on October 7, 2023.

Israel has declared the oldest hostage in the hands of the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas to be dead. The army said that the 86-year-old family was informed. Schlomo Manzur was deported to the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023 during the Hamas massacre together with around 250 other people.

The army said that he was murdered by Hamas. His body is captured in the Gaza Strip. The decision to declare Manzur as dead is based on intelligence information that has been collected for months.

The Israeli forum of relatives of the hostages announced that according to their information, Manzur was murdered on the day of kidnapping. He therefore leaves his wife, five children and twelve grandchildren.

According to the forum, Manzur was born in the Iraqi capital Baghdad. As a child, he survived the pogrom against Jews called “Farhud” in 1941. As a 13-year-old, he was emigrated to Israel with his family. Manzur belonged to one of the founders of Kibbutz Kissufim on the edge of the Gaza Strip, from which he was also kidnapped.

According to Israeli information, 76 hostages are recorded in the Gaza Strip. 35 of them had already been declared dead.
