According to the compilation made by the “Patent and Useful Model Performance Report of Universities”, the patent and useful model application of universities to Türkpament has increased over the years.
The Authority applied only 10 patents and useful models in 2010 by universities, while this number increased by 16 thousand 300 percent in 2024 to 1640. This increase showed that scientific studies and innovative projects of Turkish universities have started to find more places in patent and useful model areas.
In the years in question, when the distribution of patent and useful model applications made by universities according to the provinces, the most applications were made from Istanbul with 4 thousand 782. With 1192 applications, Ankara and 893 applications were followed by İzmir, Erzurum with 448 and Kayseri with 337 applications.
Number of Female Investors is increasing
While the number of female discoveries in university applications was 864 in 2022, it reached 926 in 2023 and 1063 in 2024. In this period, the increase in the number of female inventives corresponded to a 23 percent rate.
In the years 2022-2024, the increase in the ratio of female invention in the applications made from universities showed that women’s role in the R & D ecosystem of Türkiye has strengthened and the inequalities in this field decreased over time.
When the application classifications of the universities were examined, it was seen that human needs were in the first place. The execution of this area was followed by transportation, chemical-metalurgy, textile-paper, fixed structures, mechanical engineering, lighting, heating, weapons, physics and electrical issues.
Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Leader in Patent Registration
When we look at the universities that came to the fore with the number of applications, the universities in Istanbul took the lead. Istanbul Development University, which was at the top of the list, became the leader in 2010-2024 with the application of 932 patent and utility model.
Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa 644 with 644 applications, Istanbul Medipol University 607 with the third place.
When the universities with the highest registration certificate are examined, Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa is the university with the highest registration certificate. This was followed by Istanbul University and Istanbul Medipol University, respectively.
