Donald Trump is once again against the media. Now he is suing them “New York Times”Journalists have to worry about their visas. What effects does its war have against the media?

The mass media once made US President Donald Trump great. At the NBC reality show “The Apprentice” Watched millions of Americans for more than 14 years as he fired a participant every week. The show brought the image of the successful real estate entrepreneur to the public. He also appeared early on the front page of the magazine “GQ” And the New York newspapers quickly dedicated numerous articles to him.

Without this media attention, Trump might never have become a US president. But now he has become a bitter opponent of the established media. Already far before his presidency, he started suing the media when they reported too critically about him. In the meantime, this opposition has accepted new dimensions.

Media expert Volker Lilienthal from the University of Hamburg sees extensive consequences of Trump’s procedure in conversation with T-Online: “The spectrum of opinion is further restricted. The media that operate more demagogy than journalism are dominant. This also changes the opinion climate of society.” Through targeted attacks on the media, which are rather critical of the president, there is actual influence on reporting, warns the scientist.

Critical media are not immune to the measures of the head of state, which also applies to the “New York Times”. Trump now accused the newspaper for the democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris “Illegal campaign aid” to have done. He also spoke of one “decades” Pattern of the wrong presentation. He wanted the newspaper “take responsibility”.

For Lilienthal it is clear: “The ‘Times’ has a problem.” The newspaper will be able to prove before courts that it has not produced fake news, as Trump claims. “But I have doubts whether that still helps”the journalism professor limits. After all, Trump’s measures affect not only the media, but also the courts. The Supreme Court is already the majority of Trump people, other dishes also judge in the sense of the president.
