Despite the ban in UN Resolution: According to the state media, North Korea successfully tests its marching missiles. It is not the first attempt to intimidate its neighboring country.
According to its state media, North Korea tested its strategically directed marching missiles this week. With this exercise in the yellow sea, the country wanted to demonstrate its “state nuclear deterrence”, the state Korean news agency KCNA reported on Friday. Accordingly, ruler Kim Jong Un was present at the test start on Wednesday.
According to KCNA, the marching aircraft flew for 130 minutes before “precisely hit the goals”. Kim Jong Un therefore spoke of a “strong stroke” as a “perfect deterrent and defense”. KCNA Kim also cited with the words that it was the responsibility of the North Korean nuclear forces to “defend national sovereignty and security”.
Pictures in the North Korean state media showed Kim surrounded by civil servants with binoculars, as he observed the impact of a rocket. Where the tests have taken place was not announced. However, according to the expert website NK News based in South Korea, the test was probably carried out near the city of Nampho, about 130 kilometers from the border with South Korea.
The diplomatically largely isolated North Korea, according to its own statements, strives to hold nuclear weapons to counteract threats from the United States and its allies, including South Korea. Technically speaking, the two Koreas are still in the war, since the conflict between 1950 and 1953 ended with an armistice and not with a peace treaty.
The relationships between the two countries are currently at a low point. Kim described South Korea as a “main enemy” last year. The country regularly carries out weapon tests and thus violates UN resolutions.
The United States and South Korea also accuse North Korea of supporting Russia with the sending of more than 10,000 North Korean soldiers in the fight against Ukraine. According to analysts, Kim hopes in return progressive technology from Moscow and combat experience for his soldiers.
