According to US media reports, discussions about formal contempt proceedings were already underway in the committee when it was received. A conviction of a former US president for contempt in such a case would be unique.
Bill Clinton’s name and images appeared in documents related to the Epstein investigation. The former president has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in connection with his acquaintance with Epstein.
The American newspaper “The Nation” has nominated the city of Minneapolis for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. If Minneapolis wins the award, it would be the first city to ever do so. The newspaper justifies its nomination by saying that Minneapolis has “exceeded the standards of the Committee for the Preservation of Democracy and Human Rights and for Working toward a Better Organized and More Peaceful World.” There are good reasons for Minneapolis to be the first city ever to award the Nobel Peace Prize.
In its message, the newspaper particularly refers to the resistance in Minneapolis against the actions of the Trump administration and the border protection agency ICE. “These agents targeted the city’s diverse migrant population and put all of its residents in fear.” The fatal shootings of Alex Pretti and Renee Good “shocked the world.” In response, the city’s political leaders such as Mayor Jacob Frey called for peaceful resistance. Citizens “responded with peaceful mass demonstrations that brought tens of thousands of demonstrators to the streets in freezing weather.”
In addition, the city and its residents took care of others who were “attacked because of the color of their skin or the language they speak.” For example, they did shopping “for those who did not dare to leave their houses” and financially supported neighbors “who could not go to their workplaces because of the official attacks on their rights and their humanity.” The committee in Oslo will award the prize on October 9th.
