While the S&P 500 index decreased by 0.19 percent to 5,722.26 points, the Nasdaq index remained flat at 18,082.21 points.
While question marks remain regarding the magnitude of the steps to be taken by the US Federal Reserve (Fed) in the upcoming period, a negative trend was observed in the stock markets.
Analysts stated that inflation risks in the US economy have been replaced by recession concerns, and signals from economic activity and the labor market are expected to provide information about the extent of the steps the Fed will take in November and December.
According to data released today in the country, the average interest rate for a 30-year mortgage (housing loan) recorded its lowest level since September 2022 at 6.13 percent last week. Mortgage applications, on the other hand, increased by 11 percent, reaching the highest level in 2 years.
New home sales in the US also exceeded expectations, although they decreased by 4.7 percent to 716,000 in August.
