NASA’s’ Curiosity ‘traveler, Mars’ Gale Crater’s analysis’ siderit’ named ‘Siderit’ only collapsed from the atmosphere can be formed with a carbon. This discovery, Mars billions of years ago, an active carbon cycle and the planet may have a period of livable conditions were recorded.
The Siderit discovery emerged during the analysis of the X-ray breakdown of the Curiosity traveler with the chemical and mineralogy (Chemin) device in 2022 and 2023. The data obtained showed that three of the four points drilled in three purity of the crystalline siderit. The formation of the siderit indicates that the Mars atmosphere has a high amount of carbon dioxide in the past. This reveals that the necessary conditions for the presence of long -term liquid water on the surface on the ancient Mars. These findings of the existence of liquid water coincide with other geological evidence that there were once on the surface of the planet.
Benjamin Tutolo of Geochemist of Calgary University, discovery supports the existing scientific models of Mars’ livability, he said. Previously, both mobile and satellite -based research had found limited evidence of carbonate minerals. However, scientific models predicted that such minerals should be common on the surface of Mars.
This finding not only confirmed the existence of the expected carbonate minerals, but also helped to explain why they could not be found before. Researchers stressed that this discovery could change the methods of searching carbon minerals on Mars.
