Evaluating the unemployment figures announced today, Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan said that unemployment “has been in single digits for 33 months.”
Işıkhan: “The unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 points in January 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 8.1 percent.” he said.
Minister Işıkhan said:
“With the impact of our Medium Term Program (MTP) and our policies to improve working life, the unemployment rate has been in single digits for 33 months.
The unemployment rate decreased by 0.4 points in January 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 8.1 percent. The employment rate was 47.9 percent. The labor force participation rate was 52.1 percent. The unemployment rate for women decreased by 1 point compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 11 percent. We will continue our work to encourage registered women’s employment.
The unemployment rate among young people decreased by 1 point compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 14.3 percent.
We will continue to effectively implement our programs, especially our POWER Project, to increase the participation of our young people in working life and ensure their career planning. “We are always there for our job-seeking citizens, employers and investors.”
