In Madagascar, the military announced the takeover of power after protests and impeachment proceedings against fugitive President Andry Rajoelina. An officer from the Capsat special unit announced in front of the presidential palace in the capital Antananarivo that the constitution had been suspended and a presidential council made up of members of the army and gendarmerie had been set up.
