US President Trump wishes the renaming to Gulf of America and Google. Now Mexico is fighting for the name right for the sea region off his coast.

Because of the name change of the Golf of Mexico in the “Gulf of America” in the Google Maps online service, Mexico has sued the US company Google. “The lawsuit has already been submitted,” said Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday as part of her daily press conference. The president did not explain when and in which court the lawsuit was reimbursed.

Sheinbaum asked Google to adhere to the wording of the decrees of US President Donald Trump, with whom the name change was initiated in January.

We just want the decree to be followed by the United States government.

After the argumentation of Sheinbaum, Trump’s arrangement only refers to the continental base, which belongs to the United States. “The US government only calls the part on the US continental base of America, not the entire Gulf because it would not have the authority for this,” said the president. Google should also handle it that way.

Most recently, the US House of Representatives had approved a draft law for the name change. In the Senate, however, the draft is likely to fail because the Democrats are necessary there. The draft indicates the US federal authorities to adapt their documents and cards according to the name change.
