Mark Carney and the Liberals are forecasting in the parliamentary elections in Canada. The conservatives have already admitted their defeat.

The Canadians apparently trust Mark Carney as his conservative challenger Pierre Poilievre that he can stand up to US President Donald Trump. According to the forecasts, his governing Liberals made a victory in the parliamentary election shaped by the Annexions threats of Trump.

According to the Canadian television station CBC, the liberals have won 144 electoral districts or are in the lead there. So far, the conservatives have secured 122 constituencies. One party must win 172 of the 343 seats in the lower house to form a majority government. Due to the time shift within Canada, the polling stations closed at different times.

Both the broadcaster CBC and CTV News assumed that the Liberals would form the next Canadian government, but it is probably not enough for a majority in parliament. The Liberals had won the majority in 2015, but have been reigning with a minority government since 2019.

Carney declared himself the election winner on Tuesday night. He is looking forward to working constructively with all parties in parliament. The conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre admitted the defeat and congratulated Carney on the election victory.

The party leader of the Conservatives in Canada, Pierre Poilievre, admitted his defeat in the parliamentary election and congratulated Carney on the election victory. The conservative party would “do its job and take the government responsible,” he said in a speech in the capital Ottawa.

Shortly after the start of the election, US President Donald Trump again asked the country to integrate the United States. “No more artificial line pulled many years ago. How beautiful would this country be. Free access without limits. Only positive, nothing negative. It should always be!” Wrote Trump on his online platform Truth Social.

He asked the people of Canada to choose the man who has “strength and wisdom”, among other things, to halve their taxes and increase their military power – that is, “when Canada becomes the estimated 51st state of the United States”.

The United States could no longer subsidize Canada if Canada did not become a state of its country, Trump wrote, who of course is not on the ballot in the parliamentary election in Canada. Economic experts on both sides of the border have repeatedly emphasized that even if Canada historically benefited from the USA as a neighbor, the USA cannot subsidize Canada in the traditional sense.

Prime Minister Carney also spoke later and wrote at X: “This is Canada, and we decide what happens here.”

Around 29 million voters were called for voting for voting in the parliamentary election. The Canadians had recently united the annexation threats from Trump and his customs policy – and according to the campaign race, according to surveys, shot in favor of Carney.

The incumbent prime minister had emphasized in the election campaign that, based on his experience in dealing with economic issues, he was best qualified to deal with Trump. The chairman of the conservative party, Pierre Piilievre, had above all addressed the concerns of voters about the cost of living, crime and the housing crisis.
