Actually, the Lebanese armed forces are not considered to be Israel’s war opponents. Nevertheless, several soldiers are said to have already been killed by Israeli fire.
Two Lebanese soldiers have been killed in an Israeli attack, according to the armed forces in Lebanon. Three others were injured, according to a statement from the Lebanese military on X. The target of the alleged attack is said to have been an army center in the town of Kafra in the south of Lebanon. There was initially no confirmation of the incident from the Israeli armed forces.
Lebanon’s acting head of government, Najib Mikati, strongly condemned the alleged Israeli attack and spoke of a “crime against Lebanon” that the international community must take a stand against.
The Lebanese army is actually not Israel’s declared war opponent. It is considered comparatively weak. The Israeli army’s offensive is aimed at the Iran-allied Shiite militia Hezbollah, which has fired thousands of rockets from Lebanon into Israel since the beginning of the Gaza war. Nevertheless, it is not the first incident in which Lebanese soldiers were injured.
Israel insists on implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, according to which Hezbollah should withdraw from the south of the country. The Lebanese army was supposed to take control of the area with the help of the UN observer mission Unifil. But she didn’t succeed. Blue helmet soldiers have also been injured by Israeli fire.
