Donald Trump’s popularity ratings continue to plummet. A judge bans the deployment of the National Guard in Washington. All developments in the news blog.

A federal judge has declared the deployment of the National Guard in the US capital Washington to be unlawful. The authorities exceeded the limits of their legal authority, wrote Judge Jia Cobb.

The government of US President Donald Trump was not allowed to activate the capital’s unity without the express request of the local authorities. In addition, she should not have ordered National Guardsmen from other states to Washington for police purposes, the order continued.

Cobb ordered the National Guard deployment to end, but suspended her decision for three weeks to allow the Trump administration to appeal. The order will therefore remain in force until December 11th.

The US Coast Guard is said to have decided to no longer officially classify the swastika as a hate symbol. According to the Washington Post, the Nazi symbol will be classified as “potentially divisive” as of December 15th. The new policy also affects other controversial symbols such as the Confederate flag.

The latter remains banned, but according to the revised guidelines it can be shown in certain historical depictions – as long as it only plays a minor role there. The background to the changes is a realignment of the US armed forces in dealing with discrimination.

Even though the Coast Guard is not subordinate to the Ministry of Defense, it follows its line, according to information from the newspaper. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth launched a review of the regulations in September and criticized them as “overly broad.” According to Hegseth, they jeopardized the troops’ operational capability.

The US Coast Guard denied claims to Newsweek magazine that it had softened its stance. In a statement, Adm. Kevin Lunday, the Coast Guard’s acting commandant, said the claim that such symbols were no longer prohibited was “categorically false,” emphasizing that the symbols “were and remain prohibited” under the agency’s current regulations.

Democratic lawmakers have made a video calling on members of the military and police to refuse unlawful orders. According to the Democrats, this is their duty under the Constitution. In his own social network, Donald Trump then described the MPs as “traitors” and called for their imprisonment. He also shared another user’s post who wrote: “Hang her, George Washington would have done it!” A short time later, Trump wrote in a new post: “INRIOUS BEHAVIOR carries the DEATH PENALTY.” Read more about this here.
