According to President Trump, the USA has attacked Iran again. The target is a strategically important island where, according to the media, almost all of the country’s oil exports are handled.
According to President Donald Trump, US forces have destroyed the military facilities on the island of Kharg, which is important for Iran’s oil industry. The Republican wrote on the Truth Social platform that he had refrained from destroying the oil infrastructure for the time being. At the same time, he warned Iran that if Iran or anyone else tried to impede the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, he would “immediately reconsider” the decision. Traffic through the strait, which is important for global oil exports, has almost come to a standstill during the war due to an Iranian blockade.
Iran’s most important oil port is located on the island of Kharg in the Persian Gulf. According to media reports, almost all of the Islamic Republic’s oil exports are handled there. It is therefore of great strategic importance.
Iran is using the blockage of the Strait of Hormuz as leverage in its war with the US and Israel. The approximately 55 kilometer wide strait lies between Iran and Oman and is considered one of the most important shipping routes for global oil exports. Even before the war began, experts assumed that Tehran’s armed forces could severely disrupt trade, which has happened.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have so far maintained their blockade of the strait. According to the Fars news agency, which is close to it, the Guard’s command center said that it was following an instruction from the new religious leader Moschtaba Khamenei. With his threat, US President Trump is now trying to use leverage. The bombing of the military facilities on Kharg Island was one of the most violent “in the history of the Middle East,” he boasted.
