Does Iran accidentally show weakness in rocket tunnels?

Two Iranian generals can be filmed when visiting a secret rocket system. But it is interesting what is not to be seen.

Iran has published pictures of a tunnel system for the first time, in which apparently large amounts of rockets are stored. In a video spread by state bodies, Mohammad Hussein Bagheri and Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the revolutionary guard, can be seen as they drive past the weapons in a jeep.

According to research on the military specialist “TWZ”, several rocket types can be seen on the recordings, including the medium -range rockets Kheybar Shekan and Ghadr as well as the ballistic rocket Haj Qassem. These were recently used in an attack by Iran on Israel.

A detail particularly stands out in the video. The rockets are stored on the walls of long tunnels and caves. However, these are hardly divided by goals that would automatically close in an attack. If there is a hit on the secret system, this could lead to a chain reaction, according to the “TWZ”. Pictures from other cave bunkers, from which rockets can also be started, have shown such protective measures, according to the website.

The video could be an answer to threats from US President Donald Trump, who gave Tehran two months for a contract for the use of nuclear energy. The US magazine “Axios” had also reported that the USA currently moved the “Carl Vinson” aircraft carrier to the region. In addition, several B-2 star cap bombers have been moved from the USA to the Indian Ocean. They are said to have been stationed on the island of Diego Garcia, which is part of the Great Britain, from which American attacks on destinations in the Middle East have already been flown in the past. These bombers are able to destroy underground bunkers.

Mohammed al-Basha, a specialist in risk analyzes, said “TWZ” that he initially sees the Iranian video as a deterrent. But it was also intended to create a mood for Tehran in pro-Iranian social media and telegram channels.

Underground deposits of important weapons and drones have presented Iranian generals several times in the past. Videos and pictures appeared in November 2020, which showed an underground Iranian camp for ballistic rockets for the first time. In it, groups of shooting rockets are moved by massive tunnels using an automated railway -like system. The vertical rocket “magazine” was apparently thought to put several rockets into position in order to quickly shoot them out of the cave-like underground bunker.

Israel had destroyed an underground rocket factory in Syria last September. The military used special troops that could get into the system. Later, Israel used heavy bunker bombs to act against the Hisbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut.

If attacks on the Iranian systems now shown from the ground or from the air are successful, they could have “catastrophic consequences” because of the apparently missing safety measures and the rockets exploding in a chain reaction, as “TWZ” writes.
