The US and Iran are scheduled to meet on Friday to sign an agreement. Iran’s Foreign Minister says that negotiations will continue immediately and threatens with regard to Lebanon.
According to Iranian information, another round of negotiations between the USA and Iran is scheduled to begin in Switzerland on Friday immediately after the negotiated framework agreement is signed. These further talks should be concluded within 60 days, said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to the Tasnim agency in Tehran.
An end to the war would include an end to the Israeli occupation of areas in Lebanon, Araghchi said. Iran views any new Israeli attacks on Lebanon and further occupation of the territories as a violation of the agreement reached.
On the Iranian side, Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf will take part in the talks on Friday, said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Rawanchi, according to another Tasnim report. From the US side, Vice President JD Vance should be there, US President Donald Trump said.
The USA and Iran had agreed on a framework agreement to end the war and, according to the USA, had already signed it digitally.
Initially, the focus was on ending the war, opening the Strait of Hormuz, releasing frozen Iranian assets and reconstruction, Araghchi said in Tehran.
US Vice President JD Vance recently spoke of possible sanctions relief. A $300 billion reconstruction fund is also being discussed.
The 60-day deadline is considered close to negotiating a comprehensive agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. Similar discussions about the last major agreement with Iran, the 2015 nuclear deal concluded in Vienna, lasted almost two years.
