The Iran deal puts Donald Trump on the defensive. Even loyal supporters speak of a historic humiliation and doubt the results of his negotiations.

Donald Trump has faced unusually strong criticism from within its own ranks following its Iran agreement. Several Republican senators, conservative commentators and long-time allies of the US president expressed doubts about the terms of the agreement with Tehran.

The memorandum includes, among other things, the lifting of sanctions against the Iranian oil sector and a reconstruction fund of $300 billion for the Iranian oil sector Iran before. Final negotiations are expected to be completed within 60 days.

Many Republicans are particularly distrustful of the Iranian leadership. Republican strategist Charlie Gerow told the Telegraph newspaper: “I don’t trust the Iranians. I can’t remember any agreement they’ve kept. It’s only a matter of time before the whole thing explodes.”

Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana expressed his doubts even more sharply. “Unless you were taught by a day-drinking homeschool teacher, no one seriously believes Iran will comply with any of this,” he said.

“The Americans will be angry”

One of the most prominent critics is conservative radio host Mark Levin, who has been considered a close ally of Trump in the past. Levin had publicly supported the president during the war against Iran.

Now he strikes a different note. “When the dust settles, Americans will be angry,” he wrote on social media. With regard to the agreement, he explained: “While we are looking for guarantees, the opponent doesn’t care at all. He is just playing along with the game.”

Levin even called for negotiations with Iran to be delayed. The USA should instead “stall the enemy, increase their ammunition and oil reserves, lower gasoline prices and wait for the midterm elections.” Washington On the other hand, it appears to be “rushing towards a deal” while at the same time billions would flow to Iran. One Opinion poll The Associated Press shows that two-thirds of Americans are dissatisfied with the war against Iran.

Comparison with the Nazis

Several conservative voices compare the agreement to a policy of appeasement towards hostile regimes. Columnist Marc Thiessen described the planned reconstruction fund as a “catastrophe”. The project resembles a “Marshall Plan for Germany while the Nazis are still in power.”

Republican Senator Ted Cruz argued similarly Texas. “History shows that giving billions of dollars to theocratic lunatics who want to kill us is an extraordinarily bad idea,” he said. Trump is receiving “very bad advice” about this agreement.
