The fatal shooting of a US citizen in Minneapolis by an ICE officer has shaken the city. Now there should be investigations against Democrats who oppose ICE.

Two senior Democrats known for their harsh criticism of ICE raids in the US state of Minnesota have reportedly become the focus of Justice Department investigators. Several US media outlets reported, citing unnamed sources, that there were investigations into Governor Tim Walz and the mayor of the city of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey.

The Ministry of Justice did not initially comment on the media reports. CNN reported that the Justice Department’s investigation involves possible obstruction of law enforcement by federal authorities.

Mayor Frey wrote in an X-post in which he also linked the CNN report that it was an attempt at intimidation. “I won’t be intimidated.” The government brought chaos to the city.

US Attorney General Pamela Bondi wrote on X on Friday evening: “A reminder to everyone in Minnesota: No one is above the law.” She did not give details of what she was referring to.

The city of Minneapolis recently hit the headlines because an officer shot a US citizen during an operation by the immigration agency ICE. The US government defended the action as self-defense. Democrats and demonstrators, on the other hand, sharply criticized the operation and spoke of excessive force and a lack of transparency in the process.

According to the government, the woman drove her car toward an ICE officer. Videos give the impression that he shot her as her car drove past him.

The incident sparked protests across the country and led to legal battles between the state and federal governments.

In the state of Minnesota, where Minneapolis is also located, there have been protests against widespread operations by the immigration authority ICE for a long time. This searches for people who are in the USA without legal documents in order to deport them. According to reports, it sometimes acts with excessive severity and also targets US citizens. The ICE operations are part of the stricter deportation policy in the second term of US President Donald Trump. Walz and Frey had repeatedly massively criticized the ICE operations.
