Israel threatens with a tough counter reaction to the Huthi militia attack on the international airport at Tel Aviv. Israel also wants to decide on an expansion of the Gaza War.
In the event of a rocket attack on Israel, the Huthi militia in Yemen first hit the area of international airport at Tel Aviv. The Israeli army confirmed that an impact was identified near Ben Gurion Airport. According to the emergency services, David Adom stomachs were injured. Israel threatened a hard counter strike.
The Huthi militia supported by Iran in Yemen claimed the attack for himself. They would have targeted the airport with a ballistic hyper -shed rocket, it said in an explanation. The rocket type used by the Huthi could not be confirmed independently. The Huthi asked international airlines to avoid the airport for security reasons. Among other things, the Lufthansa Group hired its flights from and to Israel, initially until Tuesday.
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu started urgent security advice for the afternoon in view of the attack. Before that, he announced “beats” against the Huthi in a video message. In the evening, the Israeli security cabinet also wanted to advise on an expansion of the attacks in the Gaza Strip.
Despite several attempts, the rocket could not be stopped by Israel’s missile defense. On social media videos showed how smoke rose and people react panically at the airport. In numerous areas of Israel, warning sirens cry during the attack, including in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Air traffic was temporarily interrupted and the access roads to the airport were temporarily closed. Ben Gurion is Israel’s largest and most important international airport.
Defense Minister Israel Katz threatened after the attack with a counter -strike that is said to be many times harder. “Anyone who attacks us will strike back seven times,” said Katz, apparently based on the Bible.
The chairman of the so-called Supreme Political Council of the Huthi-Miliz, Mahdi al-Mashat, threatened with an expansion of the attacks, should the war continue in the Gaza Strip. He announced “further escalation options” if the Israeli attacks were not stopped, as the Huthi-close TV station al-Masirah reported.
Israel’s army has not attacked any destinations in Yemen for around four months – probably in coordination with the United States, whose military has repeatedly bombed goals of the Huthi militia since March.
A taxi driver named Yossi, who was at Ben Gurion Airport, told the Israeli news portal “Ynet”: “It was a rocket alarm and immediately afterwards an incredibly loud bang. There was no time to run off and search for a shelter in Terminal 3.” It was immediately clear that the rocket was hit nearby. “Everything flows, small stones flew through the air. There was great panic.”
Since Israel’s army resumed the attacks in the Gaza Strip on March 18, the Huthi militia has also been firing with the Islamist Hamas regularly shot towards Israel. The motto of the Huthi reads: “God is great, death America, death of Israel, curse over the Jews, victory to Islam.”
The Huthi had recently strengthened their attacks on Israel. Sunday was already the third day in a row when attacks with rockets or drones from Yemen were reported to the Jewish state.
