Donald Trump presents himself as a global peacemaker. But his claim to have ended seven wars hardly stands up to scrutiny.

Trump himself and some of his loyal followers have repeatedly emphasized in recent weeks that he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump said before the UN General Assembly in New York that he had ended seven wars in just seven months – although this statement is at least controversial. Trump doesn’t dispute that: “Everyone says I should get the Nobel Peace Prize for every single one of these achievements,” he said. The breakthrough in the Middle East may have further strengthened his view.

The overview shows: Trump often promised more than he achieved – and sometimes even contributed to the escalation himself.

After heavy fighting at the border, Trump intervened by telephone – according to his own statements, he threatened customs measures. This was followed by a ceasefire, which Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet gave Trump credit for: He nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize. But Malaysia also actively mediated. The border dispute over ancient Hindu temples remains unresolved. According to observers, Trump was more of an extra than a puller.

Status: Symbolic role, deeper conflict remains unresolved.

Trump said a friend in Serbia warned him that “a big war” was coming. He prevented an escalation with trade threats. NATO diplomats were cautious about this. Evidence of imminent war is lacking – as is Trump’s sole role in de-escalation.

Status: Prevented escalation – questionable whether it is acutely war-like.

After a dangerous border conflict, Trump announced a ceasefire – before it was officially confirmed by both sides. India explicitly denied its role and said it had negotiated the ceasefire itself. In Pakistan, however, Trump was celebrated. A classic case: Success is in the eye of the beholder.

Status: Truce, but authorship highly disputed.

Trump staged a meeting of foreign ministers in Washington – but the M23 militia as the main actor was not involved. The fighting in eastern Congo continues and Rwandan troops have not withdrawn. Congo’s president accused Rwanda of delaying maneuvers. The fighting continues.

Status: No end to the fighting, no sustainable solution.

A decades-long dispute over the Nile escalated again in 2025 when Ethiopia inaugurated the GERD dam. Trump suspended economic aid and later presented himself as a mediator. There was no breakthrough. The conflict is largely frozen – not resolved.
