Several parties argue about the statements of the US Vice President JD Vance. SPD boss Esken emphasized the fire wall for the AfD.

In the SPD and the Greens, the statements by US Vice President JD Vance have triggered outrage for democracy in Germany and Europe. “The acting of the Trump administration is a tragedy for the entire free world,” said the Green Group Vice Konstantin von Notz on Friday the “Handelsblatt”. “The champagne corks pop the dictators,” he added. SPD boss Saskia Esken, however, confirmed the demarcation to the AfD.

The US Vice President generally warned the Europeans to exclude strongly right-wing parties from government coalitions. This disregarded the will of the people, for example when limiting immigration.

Von Notz then called for a common transatlantic approach to “the democracy despisers of the world” in the “Handelsblatt”. This is currently more important than ever. “More personal responsibility in Germany and Europe and a coordinated procedure of all forces worldwide, which is still located in preservation of democracy and the rule of law, is as necessary as it was urgent,” emphasized the Greens politician.

SPD boss Esken emphasized with a view to Vance criticism: “The fire wall stands for the AfD, never again.” She added: “Our basic values of freedom, equality and solidarity are an obligation and categorically rule out any cooperation with right -wing radical and undemocratic forces.”

Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Union Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz also resisted the representations of the Trump-Vice. “We need a fire wall,” said Scholz. In Germany, it must be very clear that there is no cooperation with extremely right parties like the AfD. Merz said about the Vance appearance: “It is almost an attacking dealing with the Europeans, especially with us Germans.”

After the US Vice President JD Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Conference, FDP politician Marie-Egen Strack-Zimmermann made a “crack in the transatlantic relationship”. “Our liberal world is threatened with the extreme,” said Strack-Zimmermann of the German Press Agency on the edge of the international meeting.
