Defense in first place: Germans have clear expectations of the EU priorities. However, people from the south are sometimes different.
According to a majority of its residents of a current survey, the European Union should play a greater role in protection against global crises and security risks in the future. In Germany, even 73 percent of those surveyed want this-more than in the EU-wide cut, as can be seen from the latest Eurobarometer survey, in which more than 26,000 people were interviewed.
“This is a clear request to act, which we will meet,” said European Parliamentary Laboratory Roberta Metsola about the results. Europe has to become stronger so that the citizens felt safer.
Defense and security are therefore the most important aspect for 43 percent of the respondents from Germany to concentrate on the EU to consolidate their global position. According to the survey, the focus is on competitiveness, economy and industry, and Spaniards are most important. On average, both the Germans and the citizens of other countries consider the most relevant to culture.
The respondents from Germany are slightly above the EU average when it comes to the question of whether they benefit from membership in the EU. According to the Eurobarometer, 76 percent agree, two percentage points more than the cut.
The opinion survey carried out regularly on behalf of the EU Parliament is intended to draw a picture of the expectations of the citizens to the EU. A total of around 26,350 EU citizens were interviewed between January 9 and February 4.
