Europe’s highest court rejected Alphabet’s appeal against a 4.1 billion euro fine imposed by the European Union (EU) eight years ago on the grounds that Google’s use of the Android mobile operating system blocked its competitors.
The European Commission initially fined Google 4.34 billion euros, but this fine was reduced to 4.1 billion euros by a lower court in 2022.
The Luxembourg-based EU Court of Justice said, “The appeal filed by Google and its parent company Alphabet against the decision of the General Court was rejected; thus, the penalty imposed for Google Search’s abuse of its dominant position in the context of the Android operating system was upheld.”
