The ceasefire is fragile. After all, according to the newspaper, a new round of talks could take place in a few days. Meanwhile, Russia is offering help with the uranium issue.
Amid the struggle for a diplomatic solution to the Iran war, the ceasefire has been violated again. The Gulf state of Kuwait was attacked by suspected Iranian drones. A Defense Ministry spokesman said the armed forces discovered “several enemy drones” in their own airspace and responded to them. The United Arab Emirates also reported new shelling. The air defense system fended off two Iranian drones, according to the Emirati Defense Ministry.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue. On Saturday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to reach an agreement to end the war, Axios said, citing two sources familiar with the matter. The White House considers Qatar to be particularly effective in negotiations with Iran, it said. Pakistan is officially mediating in the Iran war, Qatar is acting more in the background.
There has been a ceasefire in the Iran war for over a month. However, military tensions remain significant. According to the Wall Street Journal, talks between the conflicting parties mediated by Pakistan could take place again in Islamabad next week.
Recently, plans for further rounds of talks in the Pakistani capital failed several times. Whether Iran has now submitted its response to a US peace proposal is unknown. Neither the Iranian side nor the US government have yet commented on this.
A few days ago, Iran’s government announced that it was examining a proposal from the USA. This is a 14-point declaration of intent. Their goal is, among other things, to create a framework for negotiations that will initially last 30 days in order to end the war. According to media reports, an easing of US sanctions and agreements on the future of the Strait of Hormuz are also being discussed. In addition, a basis for negotiations on Iran’s controversial nuclear program should be created.
According to President Vladimir Putin, Russia is ready to transport and store enriched uranium from Iran. Putin said this at an extraordinary press conference after the celebrations marking the anniversary of the victory in World War II. There was originally agreement on this, but the USA suddenly toughened its stance. The Kremlin chief said that Russia had already transported enriched uranium from Iran once in 2015. Iran trusted Russia, “and not without reason.”
