The US President’s speech at the World Economic Forum is eagerly awaited. Follow them here in the live ticker.
US President Donald Trump has been threatening for weeks to annex Greenland using military force if necessary. Europe is threatening countermeasures, including the so-called trade bazooka. Now Trump is speaking to European politicians at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
3:02 p.m.: Trump talks about Greenland. He says no country but the US could secure Greenland. He cites as an example that Denmark lost to Hitler’s Germany within a few hours in the Second World War. The USA, on the other hand, had secured Greenland. After the war, Greenland would have been returned. “How stupid we were!”
2:59 p.m.: Trump says he wants a strong Europe. “We want strong allies. We don’t want weak allies.”
2:56 p.m.: Trump praises Friedrich Merz. Germany produces too little energy, but that’s “not his fault. He’s solving the problem.”
2:55 p.m.: Trump claims it was his idea to power AI data centers with nuclear energy.
2:52 p.m.: Trump talks about his attack on Venezuela. “The attack ended and they asked us: ‘Let’s make a deal.’ More countries should do this.”
2:50 p.m.: Trump calls the European countries “partners with whom we have deals.”
2:47 p.m.: Now Trump is talking again about American domestic politics. He brought prosperity like no president before him. Meanwhile, the US broadcaster CNN shows falling stock prices.
2:43 p.m.: Trump says: “When the USA does well, you do well. If we fall, you fall with us.” Europe is not on a good path, said Trump. Among other things, he criticizes the fact that European countries allow immigrants from “far away countries”.
2:38 p.m.: Trump’s speech begins. He welcomes “so many friends and some opponents.” He then talks about his first year in office and explains that he actually only has good news.
