Domestic tourists last year’s travel expenditures, increased by 82.5 percent compared to the previous year 419 billion 300 million 959 thousand pounds was realized.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) announced the “Household Domestic Tourism” data regarding the fourth quarter of 2024.
Accordingly, in the last quarter of last year, 9 million 528 thousand people residing in the country went on a trip. The total number of travels made within the country with one and more overnight residences decreased by 0.4 percent to 11 million 467 thousand compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In this quarter, those who travel 76 million 576 thousand overnights made. The average number of overnights was 6.7 nights.
When it was evaluated annually, the total number of travels in 2024 increased by 8.7 percent compared to the previous year and reached 66 million 836 thousand. This year, the total number of overnights made by those who travels increased by 2.3 percent compared to the previous year and was 484 million 141 thousand. The average number of overnights was recorded as 7.2 nights.
Those who travel spent 66 billion pounds
Domestic tourists, domestic travel expenditures in the 4th quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of the previous year increased by 44.4 percent to 66 billion 40 million 991 thousand pounds. 93 percent of these expenditures with 61 billion 446 million 909 thousand pounds personal expenditures, 7 percent of the 4 billion 594 million 81 thousand pounds with package tour expenditures. The average expenditure per travel was 5 thousand 759 pounds.
Total travel expenditures made in Turkey, increased by 82.5 percent annually in 2024 and 419 billion 300 million 959 thousand pounds. 88.1 percent of these expenditures 369 billion 276 million 184 thousand pounds with personal expenditures, 11.9 percent of 50 billion 24 million 775 thousand pounds with package tour expenditures. The average expenditure per travel was 6 thousand 274 pounds.
In the quarter, when the distribution rates of expenditure types in total travel expenditures were examined, it was seen that eating and drinking expenditures with a maximum of 33.8 percent, transportation expenditures with 27.7 percent and accommodation expenditures with 12.1 percent.
When the change rates of these types of expenditure compared to the same period of the previous year were examined, eating and drinking expenditures increased by 61.4 percent, 33.6 percent in transportation expenditures and 50.3 percent in accommodation expenditures.
When the distribution rates of the expenditure types in the annual travel expenditures were examined, the highest rate of eating and drinking expenditures with 31.8 percent, transportation expenditures with 24.3 percent and accommodation expenditures with 16.7 percent. When the exchange rates of these types of expenditure were examined, 81 percent of eating and drinking expenditures, 68.7 percent in transportation expenditures and accommodation expenditures increased by 78.8 percent.
Relatives travels for visitors are in the first place
In the quarter, relatives were in the first place with 63.1 percent travels. With 25.6 percent in the second place “Gezi, Entertainment, Holiday”, the third place with 6.5 percent “Health” took place.
When the goals of the trip were evaluated annually, 57.2 percent was ranked first with “relatives’ visit”, while 35.3 percent of the “trip, entertainment, holiday”, 3.7 percent of the “health” for the purpose of “health” was followed.
In this quarter, the travels remained the most “friends or relatives’ home” with the number of 53 million 250 thousand overnights. According to the types of accommodation in the number of overnight in the second place 13 million 292 thousand overnight and “Own House”, “Hotel” 5 million 218 thousand overnight in the third place with the number of overnight.
When the types of accommodation were evaluated annually, the travels remained most “friends or relatives at home with the number of 328 million 972 thousand overnights. In the second place, 77 million 911 thousand overnight and “Own House” was located, while the “hotel” was third with the number of 44 million 516 thousand overnights.
